Handwriting help

Post by cdemarco »

Hi! I've been trying to figure out where my great-great-grandparents married, as there are three possible places (Moiano, Macchia Valfortore, and New York - probably Schenectady). I have a long-standing grudge against New York for not publishing old vital records online, Moiano loves to not have any records available in the years I need them, and Macchia Valfortore is missing everything after 1900. As I've calculated based on children's birthdates and census records that they married between 1900 and 1902, this is a problem.

Anyway, I then decided to double check their birth records, as sometimes the record keepers go back and add a note about marriages on the birth record. Low and behold, I found a note on my gg-grandfather's birth record that has them marrying on 14 July 1901. Unfortunately that, and my gg-grandmother's name (Maria Lucia Venditti), are the only things I can make out of the scribbles.

While it doesn't quite look like the name of the place of their marriage is mentioned, I'm hoping someone with better eyes could help me confirm? Thanks!

The place where they married is not given in the side notation. You have the date of the marriage, and the name of the bride, which is the only info given.

I would suggest looking for a Publicazione di Matrimonio (Publication of banns of marriage) in 1901 in Moiano. Even if he married in another town, the marriage would have been announced in his birth town (Moiano).

The date of the Publicazione should be a few weeks before the actual marriage date (or earlier.)

Ah darn. And Moiano's publicazioni are not online either, nor were Macchia Valfortore's for 1901 (and I check 1900 just in case - no luck). It is all very annoying, especially since my gg-grandparents kept moving back and forth between Italy and the US.

Oh well, thank you for your help!

You can write directly to Moiano to request it.

Write in Italian, include a photo ID, and an email address.

Address:
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Via Roma, 61
82010 Moiano (BN)
Italy
