Cavalli, Ripi

trying to locate family from Ripi. believe family name was Cavalli. Children Giacomo and Charles, mother Sara. Children born 1882 and 1884. Came to the US at the turn of the century. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Ripi was part of the Papal States so civil records did not begin until 1870. Family search has a few microfilms but they are incomplete and they don't have the years you need. The town does have everything. SInce you know they emigrated, records for the parents born before 1870, would have to come from the parish.
If you are trying to locate family still in Ripi (or others who also emigrated) you would need to access parish records for the parents siblings and work from there.

So I guess I'd basically have to travel to Italy to find out information. Problem is, not even really sure of my grandfathers real name. He and his brother fled Italy because the mob had a hit out on him (he got someone pregnant and she had a daughter). He came to the US with the shirt on his back and nothing else, never spoke of his family back in Italy. Going through some old records, we think his real name was Cavalli, but not even sure of that. I feel like I'm at a dead end!

The surname Cavalli is still found in Ripi today.
