great grandfather Anthony Barbetti, family?
Working on family tree. We know Tony was born in Milan in May 1889. Sometime between 1889 and 1910 he immigrated to the U.S. He changed his name to Barber when he arrived. The naturalization papers dont list his parents or adult relatives, nor do his draft cards. We are trying to locate any family who may be in Italy. His only son, Eugene, has already passed away. Suggestions on where to look?
Re: great grandfather Anthony Barbetti, family?
Hi there!
Barbetti is normally a name associated with Tuscany. It is found in Milan, but quite infrequently...so it is probable that you are of Tuscan origin.
Do his naturalization papers list what ship he arrived on? If you can find the ship manifest it could give you clues to where he came from. Also if you look laterally I find that it sometimes helps...did Tony have any siblings or cousins? Can you find any information on their records?
Good luck in your search! I hope you manage to find some clues soon!

Re: great grandfather Anthony Barbetti, family?
My Grandfather was originally Eugenio Dante Barbetti (name changed to Eugene Dan Barber)... he resided in Phillips WI, later also living in Arizona during the winter months (6month split, WI and Arizona) I don't have a lot of family history other than his father shot his mother in Chicago, (which would be my great grandfather and great grandmother) Eugene became orphaned at a young age and my father said he didn't like to talk about "the family" so I have limited knowledge of my relatives on the Barbetti side. My Uncle (Eugene's son) has changed his name back to Barbetti (Rchard) and he currently lives in northern Wisconsin. My father is Norman Barber also in Wisconsin.
Hopefully this helps, I'd love to get more information as well!
