After quite a few years I am finally able to continue my genealogy research.
I am sure things have changed so I need some guidance.
I want to send letters to Italy to obtain birth, death, family certificates, etc. on my ancestors.

What is the protocol regarding international reply coupons (how many to I send) and do I send money (if so how much and how do I send it-check or ?)

The U.S. post office no longer sells International Reply Coupons

You can send a self-addressed but NOT stamped envelope along with your request. Include a photo ID. Many towns do not charge for record copies. If they require payment, they will let you know. Also, do not request too many records at one time. There are many records now online, so you should check online first, unless you need certified copies for dual citizenship.

Hi Erudita,

Thank you for your response. The only photo ID I have is my driver's license. I should send a copy of that?
Also, I have exhausted the LDS site and now have hit brick walls. The antenati.san.beniculturali.it/ site has given me nothing. I have put in every name I have and it always comes up with no results. My family comes from the Avellino, Campania, Caserta (Pietradefusi, Taurasi, Caprodise, Marcianise) towns, etc. It seems they are not online yet.
I am hoping if I send letters requesting copies I will receive responses. I heard people don't always get replies like they used to. I'm willing to try as I really want to go further with this.

Thank you for reply and your willingness to try and help. I have many names I am researching which I found on certificates sent to me quite a few years ago. I would have to make a list to get some dates (which would most likely be the mid 1800's). I will get that together and if you have any suggestions, it would be most appreciated.

There are some online records for Marcianise, but not the older ones. Those are accessible if you search the town name in the familysearch.org catalog. Any of the ones with the camera icon to the right are online.

You might try emailing the towns before sending letters. You could also write without sending a photo ID and see if the town replies. If they request a photo ID before they will release record copies, then you would have to make a decision regarding that.

Hi Erudita,

Again thank you. Coincidentally, the name I am researching in Pietradefusi is "Manganiello". I keep trying to email however, it keeps coming back to me "undeliverable". I don't know why.
I haven't tried emailing the others yet.

I'm out my way out with my husband shortly, but here is a list of email addresses on the town of Pietradefusi website. I just have no idea who you would be emailing, if you use any of the other addresses. Possibly one of them will work though, and the person who receives it will be nice enough to forward your email to the appropriate individual.

I am so sorry to keep bothering you. I have sent an e-mail to all the addresses you gave me and every single one has been returned undeliverable. I typed it exactly the way it is listed.

I don't know what the problem is. My email is aol.com.

The email addresses are all on the town's current website, so I really don't know what the issue is. The only type of email address you won't have success with is one with pec in it. None of these have that. Maybe the problem is with aol. I really don't know, as I don't have aol. Send me a private message with some specific info you hope to get from this town. If you don't have specific dates, than we need to have an approximate range of dates. These offices also have varying hours, unless all of these email boxes are full and that's why they're being bounced back. Are you getting a specific reason as to why your emails can't be delivered?

I had tried what you said previously and just tried doing it again. All it does is bring me to the Yahoo search engine.

This is making me absolutely crazy. I want to continue my research but keep hitting brick walls.
