Italian Roots Help
Re: Italian Roots Help
Nope. And my father doesn't know. She died before he was born. I'm guessing she was born in the general area of San Pietro. But, I'm not sure. I suspect the marriage banns would have her place of birth. My grandmother only told me her parents names were Francesco Tedesco (Born 1851) and Maria Spano (Born 1848.) Maria died after 1900. He died before 1900.
She also told me these were Francesco's parents:
Padregrioto and Rosa (Both died around 1878)
Maria Spano's parents were Andrea Spano and Emmiala DeFrancesco. Both died around 1878, too.
That was all my grandmother was able to tell me about the Ferraiolo side.

Are you close to a Family History Center?
Next time I am at the Family History Center they have records of San Pietro a Maida that are available for viewing on their computers I will look for Francesco Tedesco (Born 1851) and Maria Spano (Born 1848) in the records of the Registri dello stato civile di San Pietro a Màida (Catanzaro), 1809-1861.

Re: Italian Roots Help
The nearest one is in Derry. That's not that far from me. I wish there was one in my town. If you want to look them up, go right ahead. I hope they are in the same vicinity.
Re: Italian Roots Help
Here's an update. I think for everyone else, I need to go to a family center. Not sure. Still missing a few things for a few people. Here's what I have for my grandmother's tree right now:
https://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Carr ... ily-Tree-2
I still need info on Pasquale Penta and Vincenza Nacca. I keep seeing hints on Ancestry calling Vincenza Vincenza Vaccaro and Pasquale, Pasquale di Penta. There are also profiles of those two on FamilySearch and their daughter is Maria Luigia di Penta. I'm wondering if they're the same person. I'm just not sure.
Oh and I still need Caputo and Clemente Forgione info. Any help would be great.

Re: Italian Roots Help
Right. I didn't see that. Thanks, sir. =D Dunno how I skipped that when I was adding info.
Re: Italian Roots Help
Everything's updated. I think I found Giovanni Caputo. But, it says he's married to Roseangela Dragone.
Not sure if it's the same guy.
https://www.familysearch.org/tree/perso ... RN/details
Edit. He would have been 43 when Maria was born. So, I don't know.

Re: Italian Roots Help
Sounds good. Looking for the parents of Michele Santamaria and Rosaria Dente. And sources, too.
Re: Italian Roots Help
Found them thanks to my friend at Ancestry. And a few other people. The trick now is to find sources here:
https://www.familysearch.org/search/col ... lter=false
This is where you found the file for Felice Forgione. You click browse through the images, go to Avellino, the Gesualdo and click on the records. Problem is my Italian isn't that great. What's the best way to find the person you are looking for?

Re: Italian Roots Help
Here you go
In searching Italian civil records you have birth(nati) death(morte) marriage (matrimoni) by year most go from 1866-1910 some towns have other years. Indexes are found at the beginning or end of the year you are searching by index number and surname. There are also multi year indexes which combine 5 or 10 years of indexes.
So most of the time just look in the index for the name you are are searching for in that year you are searching then find the index number and go back in that year and find the record with that number on it.
Sometimes there are no indexes at all then its page by page search by year but just because one year has no index doesn’t mean all years don’t have a index
Births have 3 records per image most of the time marriages have 2 records per image deaths have 4 images per image sometimes records are single pages depends how they were photographed by the FHL Family History Library
Babies are born then presented to the civil official of the town usually within a few days of birth for entry in the birth registry that’s why the difference in dates on the record If there is a problem and they cant register the birth act until much later they are entered in the Parte 2 for that year usually in the rear of the records and that record is usually handwritten. Sometimes there are sidenotes with marriage or death information or if the act has a mistake in it a correction to those mistakes
Marriage records include birth town, ages, occupations, parents names and if they are deceased which is very helpful in record searching
Death records have the age of deceased also the parents names and if they were married and to whom and usually town of birth usually not the cause of death
Civil records are signed by the civil official and 2 witnesses not usually family members
The indexes for the churches in Italy of baptism and marriage and death are arranged by first name first (later years last name first) by year and date of the act and page and record number. Just find your person in the index and go back to the records to find the act you
Heres a marked birth record for you to help you out
