Contacting Wealthy Relative on LinkedIn

Post by datxcali »

Hey all.

So I'm in a bit of a bind here and I'm wondering if I could have some recommendations. I hired a researcher who has been able to locate many of my living relatives in Italy.

Unfortunately, one of great grandmother's more interesting brothers has only one living descendant. It turns out that that line has done very well financially, if not reproductively. I managed to locate this gentleman on LinkedIn (based on his rare name, location, and age). He is a managing director of a very large company in Italy. I also found out that his father was a judge in Rome. So I'm guessing they loaded. He is not listed in the Italian white pages.

Basically, my goal is to get some photos of his grandfather (GGM's brother) and possibly meet. I do not want his money or anything like that.

Would you all recommend contacting him via LinkedIn? If so, what would you all recommend that I say?

Are you planning a trip to Italy? If so do it with a meeting in mind. If you can say you are coming to Italy to rediscover your Italian heritage and that your researcher has indicated a possible connection with his family that you would like to discuss. He probably speaks English but you shouldn't assume this. Do you speak Italian?
Sometimes they don't have any knowledge of an ancestor who emigrated. I recently made contact via DNA testing with the family of my GGrandfather's sister who had emigrated to Australia. No one in the family knew of this.
