Baptisms in Florence

Post by Anizio »

Does anyone know how common it was for babies to baptized at the Battistero di San Giovanni in Firenze?

There appear to be records of babies from parishes all across Florence being baptized there, so I wonder was it that all babies were baptized there or some were and some were not.

Thanks
TIP: When asking for records from Italy, do NOT ask for an "estratto." ALWAYS ask for a "copia integrale." A photocopy of the original Act will contain more information

Since babies were typically baptized on the same day as their births were registered at the Comune it wasn't uncommon for this to take place at the main church closest to the Comune. I have seen this in Ferentino and Vallerotondo.
