Altieri/Pacella

Post by Cgriffin100 »

Hello, we are desperate for help. My sisters and I are traveling to Italy next month. We found and connected with our Sicilian relatives but would like to locate the town of our father’s side and I have been struggling for months. According to the 1900 census Pietro Altieri came in 1883 and was born in 1856/1857 in Italy. His spouse, Antoinette came here in 1893 and was born in 1865 in Italy. She came with two children Carmine born in 1880/1881 and Mary born in 1884. The 1900 census says they were married for 20 years. Antoinette surname is Pacella or Bacella( we saw it on a later document I ordered). I believe it is Pacella. I can’t find him for certain on a manifest. I can’t locat Antoinette and the kids anywhere on a manifest. The dates don’t jive. Can anyone help us find the town they may be from or help guide me in the right direction? Thank you so much for any help at all!

Earlier manifests are difficult to find, and when you do find them, they contain very little information.

Maybe we can trace back from the children.

Yes, I have also been searching.
It is possible that they did not arrive through the New York port.

In the census he states that he is naturalized. If we can find his papers, they should identify the ship, date, and his place of birth.

On ancestry, enter his name, year of birth and state he lived in.
You can choose "immigration" in collection.

Not all are there. You might need to call or write to the county clerk where he lived.

Yippee I found Antoinette, Carmine(my great grandfather) and his sister!! June 5, 1893 on the Charles Martel ship leaving Naples. It says they came from Muro Lucano. There is a small notation after the sisters name I don’t understand but will post on the other forum because I can’t see how to attach a picture here. I have an appointment on May 2 at a history center to get some help looking for Pietro.
