To explain further, the reason you can begin with your father is that his naturalization documents specify exactly the citizenship he formerly held and the date he lost it. That’s exactly what you need. The consulate doesn’t really care HOW he obtained Italian citizenship; the fact that he held it is sufficient. And, of course, for you, your mother, and your siblings, the date he lost that citizenship is critical.
