Campisi's from Louisiana

Post by jagerace73 »

My grandmother was orphaned and I have been unable to find anything besides her marriage license and the record of her confirmation. If anyone has come across an additional data, please let me know.

Antonina "Lena" Campisi was born 12.1.1898 and confirmed in Ascension Church in Donaldsonville, LA on 5.27.1909, I assume she was born in the states. She was orphaned to a family member and raised by Vincenzi Marsala and Antonia Giodina(Per 1910 census).

She married in Donaldsonville to Antoninio "Anthony" Geraci 4.27.1921. The marriage license list her parents as Francesco Campisi and Rosa Carona (May not be correct).
Stories are that she was a relative of Antonia Giodina.

Antoninio "Anthony" Geraci was born 2.10.1898 and baptized at Ascension in Donaldsonville. Parents were Luigi Geraci and Seraphina Boutacadolo

Is this the 1910 US Census that you referenced for Antonia Campisi?
Head of household is Vincenzo Marsala - 44
His wife is Antonia C. - 33
Three daughters are mentioned and then "Giochino Carmira(Camino?) - 78- father-in-law" (the father of Vincenzo's wife)
Then a neice, Antonia Campisi - 14 (so born about 1896)

Lena Campesi Gerace
My grand mother and grandfather Antonia Caronna Marsala and Vincenzo Marsala raised Aunt Lena from an early age until her marriage to Tony Gerace. I grew up in the house at 422 St Patrick St, Donaldsonville, La. Her mother was Rosa Caronna Antonia’s sister. Gioachino “Jackamo” Caronna and Rosalia were her parents. Her father could not raise her by himself after her mother became Ill and brought her to my grandmother. My father Louis And his sisters Carrie and Rosalie thought of her as a sister and had fond memories I met your grandmother several times in the early fifties. Actually went to their general store in north Louisiana. Her sons were pallbearers at my father’s funeral in 1966.

but Giachino in a previous trip on 1888 went with Vincenzo Caronna, maybe a oldest son, and travelling with Francesco Campisi 24 old

I do not know if this will help you - but here are a few newspaper articles on their wedding and Anthony's obit.

You may want to contact the Catholic Church in Donaldsonville to see if they have any additional information.
