Giovanna Vincenzi (originally Cestari) - Death or Divorce

Post by vncns »

I am looking for information on the death and/or divorce of Giovanna Vincenzi.

She married Giovanni Vincenzi on 1873 in Roncoferraro, but he married another italian woman when he arrived in Brazil, called Giacomina Bassani.

Born: April 2, 1853
Parents: Giuseppe Cestari and Fortunata Maria
Born in: Bondanello, Mantova, Lombardia

Divorce wasn't legan in Italy until 1962 so he married bigamously and you can be sure it was only a civil union and not in the church if his wife was still alive.
You can search civil records http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... i+Mantova/

Thanks for the info, Italysearcher. But if his marriages were one in Italy and one in Brazil, wouldn't it be easy to marry again in church in different countries?

Yes, but a Catholic took religious marriage very seriously. It was a HUGE sin. t would be very unusual for them to marry a second time in the church unless the first wife was deceased.

To request an italian citizenship, does it matter if my relative was married twice? Should I look for documents to prove he wasn't married to his first wife anymore?

I imagine I only need to present information on his marriage related to my lineage, is that correct?

I am not an expert on citizenship rules. Maybe someone else can help you with that.
