Illegitimate

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Illegitimate

Post by Indiana87 »

Hi,I’ve begun looking into applying for Italian citizenship.

One question I am struggling to get a definitive answer on is illegitimacy.

My claim for Italian Citizenship is based on my paternal grandmother who married an English soldier and moved to the UK after WW2.

My mother was not at the time of my birth and never did marry my father. However he is listed as my father on my birth certificate.

My question is, what impact does this have on my claim?

Does the line run through your father or your mother? Illegitimacy does not affect citizenship. However, if your line goes through your father, a statement from him acknowledging paternity would be very helpful.
