Birth record help

Post by frankdamore »

Hello,

This one is difficult for me to read! Any help would be much appreciated, please.

I believe it's Simone Calato. If it isn't, don't bother!

The father is Simone Calatto - the child is Santa Calatto
#87
Dated 28 September 1841
Simone Calatto is a 33yo farmer residing in Vicari, who declared that a female child was born to his wife Giuseppa Coniglia, 20yo, on the same day at 6 PM at their home.
The child was given the name Santa, and baptized on the same day.

Ah man, my fear! Thanks, Tessa.
I have to circle back and try to find Simone's birth record. I do wonder if Simone could be the father of the other Simone though! The question continues.

Perhaps this will help with clarification (now or later)
Santa appears to be their first child, named after his mother.

Marriage of the above couple, Simone Calato and Giuseppa Coniglio in 1840
#22 dated 19 September 1840
Simone is 32, farmer, Son of deceased Salvadore, and of Santa Disparti age 60.
Giuseppa is age 18, daughter of Melchiorre, age 44, and Antonia Treppidi, 36.

I believe that this is the birth of the above Simone Esposto...
According to the marriage in December 1859, he was Simone Esposto, age 23, unmarried, shoemaker, born in Vicari to unknown parents. This puts his birth about 1836...
Spouse is Serafina Damato.

Birth act #80
Dated 28 October 1836 - birth on 27 October
The child was presented to the official by Anna Capozza, 67yo widow, Custodian of the Abandoned, residing in Vicari, who declared that the child was born to unknown parents and was "found at the wheel" on 27 October. The official gave the child the name SIMONE.
Baptism on 28 October.

Thanks again for the help.
I've always had a difficult time with knowing it's the end of info gather for a specific line. I have his date of death from my home town and can order his death certificate. I figured that will not reveal any parents though.

I appreciate the look (and help) T!

You refer to Simone with surname Calato. From what source, may I ask?

Hello,

Sure - the marriage record from his daughter, Rose https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1 ... cc=1947613

I haven't been able to secure her birth record however. It looks like she was 15 when married, so I've looked around 1866 and +/- a few years so far

Here is her birth act in 1864 on 6 January.

Her father's name is "Simone Esposito inteso Calato" - Simone Esposito understood as Calato.
Perhaps it was known INFORMALLY as to who his father was. The person who presented the child to the official was Paolino Calato, age 31 - no relationship given to the couple. He was a farmer residing in Vicari.
Mother is Serafina Amato, 21. Simone is age 27.
In the right column (the baptism) the child is identified as Rosalia, daughter of Simone Esposito.

AND...
Here is a son, Paolino, born in 1865 on 11 October.
Same father: Simone Esposito "inteso" Calato.
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1947613

NOTE: It is curious to note that in the index of births - Rosalia is listed under surname Esposito, and Paolino (a year later) is listed under the surname Calato.

Thanks so much for the help!
Interesting about the person who presented the child. Perhaps Paolino was a brother? I don't believe there is a way to ever know.

I have been searching for a possible "act of recognition" to see if Simone's father ever acknowledged him.
No success so far :-(

If Paolino Calato (the presenter) was a brother, it was not legally so, unless there was a recognition by the father.

JUST A THOUGHT... since Simone named his first son Paolino, it is possible that this is the name of his father.
