Notation on Manifest

When researching the immigration of my Great Aunt, Luigia Cardegna, and Great Uncle, Nicola Cardegna, there was a notation the manifest , "arrested by the SS". Can anyone tell me what this is about? Were they detained? Both of these ancestors did enter and settle in the US.

At the beginning of the line, each is marked SI (Special Inquiry). There should be a "List of Detained Aliens" with their names. Perhaps there is further information located there.

There several passengers who are marked as "Arrested by S. S. agent" - with the first one in the column written as "Arrested by Secret Service agent".

Here they are on the Detained Aliens list. (4th lilne down)
It appears they were being held for "coun'ftg" [counterfeiting] - but were admitted to US the next day at 10:05
