Hello,
I'm researching an Italian priest emigrated to Brazil called Giuseppe Gnecco. I got some information about him and I will share with so maybe anyone could help me: in his family's memory he was a priest in Spain and came to Brazil, at first, escaped because of a rape committed by him there. He arrived in Brazil with his brother named Lorenzo Gnecco (who ended up becoming an important trader at the São Paulo region). Unlike his brother, Giuseppe comes to the state of Santa Catarina, in the south of Brazil, which has an expressive Italian community. The Santa Catarina newspaper that notified the priest's death in 1868 reports that he died at the age of 68. In other words, the priest must have been born in Genoa between 1790 and 1810. Can any colleague here help me with the baptism of the priest or his brother Lorenzo?
Cheers,
Pacheco
Baptism or emigration of an Italian priest to Brazil
Re: Baptism or emigration of an Italian priest to Brazil
Hi by genealogic tree on line
he went in Brasil:
Migração para o Brasil
Entrou no Brasil, pelo porto de Tubarão, em 1847.
25 de julho de 1854
Rio de Janeiro, Brasil
Naturalização aceita pelo Congresso Imperial Brasileiro
Death • •
5 de julho de 1868
Tijucas, Santa Catarina, Brasil
joined to maria Maddalena Pesce and they had these children:
José Antônio Maria Gnecco
1849–Deceased • L1HV-89G
Joao José Francisco Gnecco
1851–Deceased • LBXL-MZF
Antonia Magdalena Gnecco
deceased • L1XB-QSM
Isabel Maria Gnecco
–1890 deceased • MSZ5-W86
abt the oldest child he was natural child of Maria Magdalena Pecher/Pesce(? who know) and baptized in Desterro old name of Florianopolis.. I don't think that Giuseppe married to Maria Magdalena, because he was vigario in the church at the time and witness to marriage of son https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... AQG29-RHFJ
I search the marriage of giuseppe to descover almost the parents names and many time it is possible to find also the parish where the couple was baptized, but because on 1865 he was "vigario" still I think that never married officially...
the Gnecco surname is popular in Genova and in the Genova area, so it is a problem.. on line something start from 1838 or so... before are something... the baptism list of male babies born in Genova town start from 1796 to 1805 but no Giuseppe and no Lorenzo.. the records are in french language
http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... ewsIndex=0
So no born in Genova town but in some Municiplaity in Genova province...
but without know the parents name this search is very hard, because the infos are no enough..
Best regards,
suanj

Re: Baptism or emigration of an Italian priest to Brazil
Hello,
There is an update on this research. In the priest's naturalization process, he states that he is from Sardinia and not from Genoa. Do you guys know of any website where it is possible to research births in Sardinia during the period 1790-1810?
Regards,
Pacheco
