Pietro Carswell (Casoli or Casuli) and Francesco Gennaro
Re: Pietro Carswell (Casoli or Casuli) and Francesco Gennaro
Francesco Gennaro does indeed appear as a god-father on the baptism record for Eugene/James.
Re: Pietro Carswell (Casoli or Casuli) and Francesco Gennaro
Just a correction on my last post:
It's a Francis Gennaro who appears as a god-father on the baptism record at St. Mary's Lochee, Dundee for Francis Caswell b.13/8/1893. Francis is the older brother of Eugene/James Carswell. Note the spelling of Cas/Cars well
It's a Louisia Eugenia followed by an unreadable mark and the name/word "Lario" I think who appears as a sponsor on the batism record for Eugene/James Carswell.

sorry abt italian language of record...
however Francesco said to be born in Genoa.. I believe that no one with Gennaro surname ( I believe righht DI GENNARO no just Gennaro)it was born in Genoa area but in Naples area ...
The fact that your pietro was icecream vendor don't help much.. however by a preliminary I saw that the italian surnames in Scotland, in the censuses was from Piedmont, Liguria, Emilia Romagna, Toscana and Lazio and Campania, line the west Italy regions, and no doubts that anyone is able to make the ice cream, but the vendors in Scotland, seem me that coming from Liguria and Emilia Romagna region expecially...
the watchmakers and silkworm breeders came from Lombardy; Ice cream makers, restaurateur sailors and beast tamers from Liguria and Emilia Romagna, figure makers from Tuscany, itinerant players and bear tamers from Lazio and Abruzzo and Molise, from Campania merchants, sailors, instead itinerant harpists from Basilicata .. and that the birthplace could be MORFASSO in piacenza province, Emilia Romagna region.
The big problem is the birthyear.. I understand that marrie da young woman and Pietro wanted to be more young also, but from 1835 to 1859 are a gap of 24 years, and it is a big gap...
The civil records are no availables, because in north Italy starting from 1866 ..

Re: Pietro Carswell (Casoli or Casuli) and Francesco Gennaro
Again me,
if Piacenza area could be theprobable birthplace, well I searched in the military service roll, availables from men born on 1842 and I found from 1842 to 1846 these 3 names, but Casoli spelling variants:
-CASALI Pietro Francesco #270 born in Rivalta, Piacenza, IT on 27 dec 1842 son of late Fiorenzo and Giuseppa Pancotti
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cat=516025
-CASALINO Pietro # 432 born in Vigevano, Pavia, IT on 13 aug 1842 son of Ambrogio and of late Margherita Marcheschi
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cat=516025
-CROSOLI Pietro (first box) born in Cremona, Cremona, IT on 16 Oct 1846residing in Castell'Arquato, Piacenza IT son of unknown parents
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cat=516025
You think that could be helpful to search also after 1846?

we can delete it as probable, as he had married in Castell'Arquato, his wife was called Luigia who died early, was widowed and in 1895 was in Italy at the marriage of his daughter. Besides, he was a bricklayer.-CROSOLI Pietro (first box) born in Cremona, Cremona, IT on 16 Oct 1846residing in Castell'Arquato, Piacenza IT son of unknown parents

Re: Pietro Carswell (Casoli or Casuli) and Francesco Gennaro
Hello,
Are you all still active in your family research? I have posted previously about Pietro Casoli/Peter Carswell. He was my great great grandfather. I have a wonderful photograph of an ice cream seller in Dundee taken sometime probably in 1890s.
Let me know if you are still active.
