Please help

Hello. I hope someone can help me. I wrote to the Mirto, Messina commune to locate my GGF’s birth records and they wrote back saying they don’t have the records. I finally found the birth record online through Family Search and according to the source the records came from Tribunale di Patti. I went to their website and wrote an email to civile.tribunale.patti@giustiziacert.it, however the email came back non deliverable saying “ordinary emails not allowed.” Can someone help me figure out who I need to write to in order to get my GGF birth record? If I snail mail a request, does anyone know how much it would cost for a reproduction and how I could pay?

You should not write to the Tribunale, the Tribunale is where a copy of the registers are left for a certain time and where Family Search made the photos you found. Another copy of the register remains at the Comune and only the Comune can make copies and certificates.

You should explain what you need.
If you are searching info about your family you have already found the photo of the act you need.
The Comune could send you the same photo taken from their copy of the register (they should find it) and sent by e-mail.
It is different if you need a certificate to ask Italian citizenship or for other administrative use, in this case printed on paper and sent by mail.
You may explain and say also in which Country you are living.

Yes, all of the above, and also include a copy of a valid ID with your request. If you reference the record number that you found, that will also help to get you a more helpful response.

Ok, so you could try Giovanni Montanti, who is in Sicily, and who could call the comune to verify that they do not have that record, and find out from them how you can proceed to have them verify the document you have found.

He'll give you a quote via email. He's helped in many tricky situations. Here's a link:

The letter you received comes from Messina so it seems you had sent your request to the Comune of Messina and not to that of Mirto where the person was born.
Mirto is another Comune different from Messina, even in the same province.
So you should send your request to

demografici@comune.mirto.me.it

The certificate is made without any payment, for the postage some comune don't ask payment, others ask it (and there is the problem of how to pay).
In the case you should present the. certificate not only to the Italian consulate but also to an office of your Country (that seems to be the USA) you need also an 'apostille' to be asked to the Prefettura of Messina.
Particularly in this case it may be easier to ask a person living there to do all, as suggested by TerraLavoro.
