Avitella not listed anywhere

Post by wmsrble60 »

Hello!
In my 6x Ggm's death record, AVITELLA (or AVITELLO) is listed as the place she was born. I've tried searching, to no avail. No province or region, just Avitella (or AVITELLO).
Her name was Annantonia Gianfrancesco (b. abt 1753, d. 1821), daughter of Giorgio Gianfrancesco and his wife, Giustina. Giorgio's profession is listed as Tenente di campagna, which, if my translation is correct, Campaign Lieutenant. Of what, I have no idea.

You are sure that the name of place is Avitella and not Civitella? And that Giorgio was Tenente di Campagnia ? Or Tenente di Compagnia(Army Company or similar translation)?

Could be "Ci" instead of "A", reading "Civitella", which exists in Abruzzo.

Sure Civitella...When I read the topic, and the surname Gianfrancesco I understood that the area was Abruzzo.. no doubts. So no Avitella but Civitella del Tronto. I lived in the province of Teramo for years and I know the area well, and the surname Gianfrancesco is a local surname.

The village of Passo belongs to the municipality of Civitella del Tronto, in the province of Teramo, region Abruzzo.
