Hi All - I am seeking my great grandfather's (Francesco Vallone) birth records from 1862.
I have found the digitized copies of his birth, baptism, and marriage records online - and I have written to the comune of Prizzi to obtain a certified copy of the birth and marriage records.
Prizzi responded with a note - they were able to provide me with the marriage certificate that I requested from 1885 of my great parents, but noted that it was not possible to send me the birth records, as they were prior to the comunes civil records in 1866.
Does anyone have advice on how I can get this record since it is digitized, but Prizzi says they do not have it?
Thank you for any advice you may have.
Online records found but comune says they do not have the record...

Hello,
yes, the copies are digitized, but they are kept in the State Archives of Palermo, the Municipality of Prizzi does not have them. It has happened to me other times, and therefore since Prizzi does not have the original registers, it cannot certify anything. However, in the answer they gave you they could advise you, because when the Municipality does not have the original registers and cannot certify, the Italian Consulate accepts the baptismal certificate instead of the birth certificate.

You can see on the birth record of Francesco, well he was baptized on 14 Jun 1862.
Well here the baptism record:

record #187 in latin. Church: San Giorgio Martire in Prizzi
I don't know if the church have the church register in parish archive, but I believe that the Monreale Diocese yes, because the church records were digitalized by Monreale Diocese repository, so the first step is to write in the diocesan historical archive and ask if they can relay the baptism certificate with the endorsement of the Curia of: VALLONE Francesco baptized on .. etc..in.. etc, for use italian citizenship request by jus sanguinis . To attach a picture of your ID card and the saved copy of baptism record on line.
Please to write in italian language.
Here diocesan archive email: http://www.archiviomonreale.sicilia.it/ ... Itemid=687
And to wait the reply. If the diocesan archive don't relay certificates, they can give you the parish priest email of San Giorgio Martire church in Prizzi.
The baptism certificate service is no free.
But, however, they will you know anything.
Please to keep the reply from the Municipality of Prizzi which you will have to attach to the baptismal certificate.
Hoping helpful,

It is also possible to get certified copies from the State Archives for citizenship purposes but you will need to send a 'bollo' (Tax stamp), an addressed envelope and ID.
