B.S. in 1900 U.S. Census
I'm searching for Bartholomew Sullivan (B.S.) on the 1900 U.S. Census.
The closest residence date I have for him is 227 East 46th St. in NYC on his 1902 Naturalization Record.
His birth date is stated as 1875, but it was actually 1870.
His naturalization papers state that as of 1902 he had been resident continuously in the state of NY.
He immigrated to NYC in 1893, and remained single until 1903 when he married Bridget Boland in Manhattan, where he lived until his death in !917, so I assume he resided in NYC in 1900.
Any help is appreciated.

Re: B.S. in 1900 U.S. Census
Yes, thanks, I have that. I need the 1900 Census.
Re: B.S. in 1900 U.S. Census
Here is the 1900 US Census for address 227 East 46th St., NYC
At this address there are Sullivans, but not Bartholomew.
Head of House is Anna Sullivan, 60yo Widow from Ireland, with her son, William, 25, and daughter Maggie, 21, both of whom were born in NY.
Line 58

Interestingly, on the previous page living at 229 E 46th, is a James Boland, age 29 from Ireland who is a boarder.
And here is the original copy of the Naturalization record from 1902 if you do not already have it.

Re: B.S. in 1900 U.S. Census
Interesting. Thanks for finding the 1900 Census record. I have no idea who Anna Sullivan is. She's of Bartholomew's father's generation so maybe she's his aunt. The woman (Bridget Boland) he married in 1903 had a brother James Boland who immigrated , so maybe that's him. It's still a puzzle as to where he was living in 1900 or prior.
I can't open Ancestry links since I don't have a paid account.

Re: B.S. in 1900 U.S. Census
Did anyone ever notice that Italian names are horribly misspelled on the 1900 census (at least in Pennsylvania), but the spellings were much more accurate by the 1920 census.
Was this due to increasing familiarity with Italian names by 1920? Or was it because they started using enumerators who were of Italian extraction?
Any thoughts?
