Hi!
On my great-grandfather's marriage certificate, he has his mother as being listed as Grazia Crismati. The penmanship is quite clear. I have never heard of this surname before. It may have been mis-spelled by the priest.
Has anybody seen this surname or have any ideas what it should be?
I'm guessing that she was probaby born around the 1860's. She was married to an Alessandro Sammario. There sun Luigi lived in Rapolla.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike
Crismati? Is that a vaild surname?

Why don't you request an "estratto dell'atto di nascita" (abstact of birth record) of your great-grandfather? You'll find her right name and last name on it!

Hi Riccardo!
Thanks!
I had tried to get the abstract of his birth record and had no success. Perhaps I went about it all wrong.
Any advice to insure success?
Thanks again,
Mike

If I had to guess, I'd bet on Crismale but it appears mostly in Bari not in Potenza. Sammario, on the other hand, appears mostly in Potenza.msamario wrote:On my great-grandfather's marriage certificate, he has his mother as being listed as Grazia Crismati. Any reason to believe that Grazia moved from Molfetta to Rapolla when she married Alessandro? Did Alessandro have an occupation that allowed him to travel, or maybe he was in the military?

Hi Mike,
Is this the address you wrote to obtain his birth act?
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Comune di Rapolla
85027 RAPOLLA (PZ)
ITALY
Was the letter in Italian?
Did you include: self addressed return envelop, a copy of your photo ID, and an international reply coupon?

Thanks Vineviz,
Crismale would make sense and this is the best lead that I have gotten!
The priest must have crossed the "L" by accident, thereby making it look like a "t".
It is possible that Alessandro was not born in Rapolla. He may have married Grazia somewhere's else. I have really no information about them other than the fact that they are the parents of Luigi Sammario.
Thanks again,
Mike
P.S. If anyboy else has any other info or ideas, please let me know!

If it is Crismale, then Molfetta (Bari) would be a great place to look for a birth record.msamario wrote:Crismale would make sense and this is the best lead that I have gotten!

Hi jcsm,
I had a researcher (probably not a good one) check for Luigi's record. I have a feeling it was not done properly.
You actually have to provide a photo idea when requesting a birth act? What is the reply coupon?
I don't want to seem dumb... but if I send something myself this time, I want to make sure it is done correctly.
Thanks,
Mike
