Does anyone know more about this simple fable or folk saying ?
My Tuscan step-grandfather once told a fable about three European wolves. Each one held some meat in their mouths and when each was asked what they had, they answered in their native language, with the italian wolf proven superior.
The punch line was that when the french wolf responded "viande", he dropped and lost his food, while the italian wolf said "carne" but could maintain a clenched jaw, still grasping his food securely.
Thank you.

I came across this pdf yesterday and quickly had a look through it. I didn't see the folk tale or fable for which you are searching, but perhaps it contains something which will be of interest to you or someone else.

also there is this book which you might want to purchase-

There are other books as well which are referenced on googlebooks.com but, unfortunately, no preview pages to actually read which might contain the fable for which you are searching.

I'll definitely check out the PDF you mentioned, and the book looks interesting too — I might give it a try.
Even if the exact fable isn't there, any related content might help me dig deeper.
Thanks again for your kind help!
