Are you looking for an Italian surname? Do you need more information about your family heritage?
This is the right place to start your genealogy search.
First, let me say that I do not see Ippolita included with the given name for Felice's mother in any of the records. She is simply Maria Conte.
In the birth act, the publication of marriage, and the marriage act, Donata's mother is Ippolita.
Given the fact that Donata's father is deceased Leonardo, and Filomena's father is Vincenzo... it is likely they are related in some way. Not unusual in small towns.
And I do not find it strange that Felice and Donata have mothers with the same surname in this town.
Ok I am going to re-pencil this relationship for now.
Filomena DiPierro is the daughter of Vincenzo DiPierro and Maria Grasso
Donata DiPierro is the daughter of Leonardo DiPierro and Ippolita Conte
Felice Guerriero is the son of Giovanni Guerriero and Maria Conte
You may be right. I always assumed Donata and Filomena were sisters with the super close connection. The Guerriero family was very close to my family until the 30s. Rocco (Felix) signed and was present at my Grandmothers Baptism in Utica, and Donata and Filomena lived on the same street in Utica too. That said, like you said, perhaps Vincenzo and Leonardo were brothers and they were first cousins.
Here is the marriage of Leonardo Di Pierro and Ippolita Conte in Missanello in 1845
#2
Leonardo is age 22, born in Gallicchio, residing Missanello; son of Rocco who resides in Gallicchio; and of Donata Cascino (SP?) who died in Gallicchio.
Ippolita is age 24, born and residing in Missanello; daughter of Francesco, and of Rosa Bernardo. https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 42/wOAyGBl
ok so to identify the relationship do you find a Vincenzo DiPierro. If we can see his parents and if they are Rocco DiPierro and Donata Cascino. IF that is the case Vincenzo DiPierro and Leonardo are brothers.
Yes, if you can find Vincenzo DiPierro whose parents are the same as Leonardo Di Pierro, they are brothers... But you must also confirm that this Vincenzo Di Pierro that you find is the husband of Maria Grasso, and therefore the father of Filomena Di Pierro (who married with Antonio Caputo )
Keep in mind that Leonardo Di Pierro was born in Gallicchio.
Do you have the birth act of Filomena Di Pierro?
In the death act of Maria Grasso that you found, it states that she was born in Armento, and that she was the daughter of deceased Rosa Grasso who resided in Armento.
Maria Grasso's marriage to Vincenzo MAY have taken place in Armento.
T you got it...@AngelaCrace56 you were spot on too. What threw me was the location. That said, Gallicchio makes perfect sense. Also T regarding Armento I follow you. It is possible that the marriage took place in Armento.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Yes I have this birth act for Filomena and I see my G. Grandfathers marriage in the side column which all lines up. Her mother is Maria Grasso and Father Vincenzo DiPierro, but I did not notice Vincenzo DiPierro's fathers name as Giuseppe. OMG....ok so What the heck is the relationship between Donata and Filomena.
Donata was the daughter of Leonardo, the son of Rocco DiPierro
Filomena was the daughter of Vincenzo, the son of Giuseppe DiPierro
Here is the notification of marriage in Armento in 1857 November, for Vincenzo Domenico Di Pierro and Maria Battista Grasso.
He is the son of Giuseppe Andrea, and of Anna Maria Appella.
There are no parents named for Maria Grasso.
WOW...ok so Vincenzo Domenico DiPierro was born in Missanello and Maria Grasso in Armento. Maria Grassos mother is Angela Rosa Grasso of Armento, unknown father.
Actually, there is no mention of Angela Rosa Grasso on the extract of birth I posted above for Maria Battista Grasso.
There is also no mention of a mother on the marriage act.
It appears that the only record so far that provides a mother's name is Maria Grasso's death act. Probably not reliable.
As to the relationship between Leonardo and Vincenzo...
One was born in Gallicchio and the other in Missanello.
Probably cousins, but you will need to go back at least 2 or more generations to discover the connection.
It looks like the marriage of Vincenzo and Maria took place in Castronuovo?
Well, I really want to thank everyone in this discussion thread. For those following along, Felice’s death was a mystery because I thought he had returned to Missanello. It turned out that he passed in 1903. Once I had a date range based on the city indexes, I reached out to all the local cemeteries and submitted a request. We got a hit after some back-and-forth with St. Agnes. The last name had been misspelled and shortened.
Once I had the date of death, I was able to comb through the local newspapers and locate the obituary. The obituary confirmed the address on Montgomery, which I cross-referenced with the indexes for verification. Initially, St. Agnes stated they had no location information on where in the cemetery he was buried.
On a hunch, I asked them to check if he might be near my Great Uncle Rocco Caputo (buried in 1904), and bam—they found it! He is in the same section as Rocco Caputo and Lucia Izzo, just a few steps away. So, the mystery of his final resting place is solved.
I'll be heading over to Utica on my next trip and will make sure to pay a proper visit on behalf of us all. Felice Guerriero, husband of Donata, has been found!
I can’t thank you all enough. It’s fun tracking all this down, but I also feel a deep desire to restore these broken links while we still can, while the records still partially exist. Maybe we can restore the information and memorialize it for another 150 years. I have another threat to track down Filomena and Antonio. Last known whereabouts Missanello 1909 at the death of Maria Grasso and the registration of Antonio Jr. at the commune in Missanello. Antonio passed that same year in December 1909, and Antonio and Filomena never return that we have been able to find. Checked all graveyards, obituaries, etc. I suspect they remained Missanello but you can pick up the other thread if you are interested. THANK YOU SO MUCH ALL!
Perhaps Gallicchio which THAT makes sense. Gallicchio is next to Missanello.
“Love has no bounds!!!”
I’ll leave you to research Gallicchio if you feel that might be the correct birth place of Felice Guerriero. Personally, my thinking is that I have located the correct birth record, and that a “thank you” for my research would’ve been appropriate. (BTW There is no need to shout.) I believe that Giovanni and Maria lived in Castelluccio Inferiore, Potenza when they were first married, and that their first son Felice was born there, and that they at some point moved to Rovello, where son Nicolo was born in 1857. (Castelluccio Inferiore was Maria’s birth town, while Giovanni was born in Quadrelle – yikes even further away – yes it happened, more than you realise.) (They probably would’ve had other children between Felice and Nicolo’s birth. You might like to research this.)
Best to you with your research.
Edit to Add: I've just noticed your last post here which I hadn't seen before. Strange. Take care.
