1836 Colaianni & Bulso marriage + 2 murders?

Post by NickAndreola »

Hi Ya'll!
These questions stem from the 1836 marriage of Pasquale Colaianni and Maria Leonarda Bulso. The marriage Act noted that Pasqaule's living father's residence was "di Isola di Nisita" (which I've surmised was actually NISIDA, a prison Island near Naples. https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 14/LqOj8qM

Further investigation into the full marriage package, Image 127 https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 95/w6PJMje, gave this page that my clumsy translation gives this general gist:
"The Grand Special Court of Capitanata with decision of the twenty-sixth day of September 1833, declare that the named Adamantonio Colaianni, son of the late Pasquale of Casalvecchio, is guilty of complicity in premeditated murder, accompanied by public violence against Pietro Cicchillo, and I sentence him to a penalty of 25 years of irons, with the guarantee of one hundred ducats."
Does that capture the essence or am I missing something?

I know Adamantonio Colaianni eventually got out of prison and died in Casalvechhio in 1854.
Maria Leonarda Bulso is my 1st cousin 4xR through her mother Cristina Rossacci, so I'm very curious about her deceased father Antonio....tab over to Images 128 and 129; something is going on that seems to say that Antonio murdered Luigi Maria Tosches... but I can't get the gist of what these pages are really saying....HELP!

No death record was found in Casalvecchio for Antonio,,,I know he was alive a least until the requirements for the birth of his last known child Angela Maria Bulso in Feb of 1829 (early 1828) but he is definitely dead by May of 1836....

Thanks for any insights!!!!!

Continuing on in the full marriage package are images 136 & 137...dates are clear 11 March 1830 and 29 ? 1826 but can't make out what was happening to Antonio?

Yes, that's correct

Yes, he murdered Luigi Maria Tosches, and was sentenced to 18 years of "irons". That means that he not only was in jail, but had chains at his ankles, and had to drag an iron ball. Also, he had to pay 100 ducati for three years (I think that was just a guarantee), and had to live 30 miles away from Tosches family until they forgave him

On Mar 11, 1830, Antonio was notified the sentence while in jail

That is most helpful! Thank you as always :D

Based on those dates and what info I have in the database so far, It's looking like this 19 year old Luigi Tosches who died 24 Aug 1826 might have been the victim....I wish cause of death was noted on these records https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 91/LmPn1Aa
