Help with Translation and Reading

Post by A14o »

Hello,

I've attached the screenshot (and link) to this particular birth record I'm trying to read. The parents are not listed, but I want to translate the text about it as well. Thank you kindly in advance for anyone who can help!

For some reason it's not letting me upload the link I'm so frustrated - it keeps giving me an error page any time/way i try to post it (maybe because I'm a newer user)

its for Vincenzo Pugliano, b. 22 Oct 1833 Paterno Calabro, Cosenza, Calabria, number 57, p. 30/38 (though I dont expect you or anyone to go out and find it). Sorry that's so frustating

edit: got it to work lol:

Thank you for taking the time to find and post the link.

The handwriting and clarity of image make this a difficult transcription, but here I what I see.

The birth act is dated 22 October 1833
Appearing before the official at the town hall on that day was Francescantonia Ricca, 66, a Pious Receiver residing in Palermo, who presented a baby born to parents unknown, who was left at the "Ruota dei Proietti" (Wheel of the Abandoned) at night at about 9 PM. It was dressed in a gown and diaper with no (verifiable) signs accompanying. The child appeared to be about 3 days old [so the birthdate would actually be about 19 October] and was baptized the same day.

The official gave the child the name Vincenzo and the surname Pugliano.

NOTE: Sometimes children who are abandoned are left with items that will help to identify them when/if their parent(s) come to reclaim them. This is further explained in the second link I have posted below.

I hope this helps.
