Donata Maddalena Satriani Death Record

Post by EMTLP »

I am looking for the death record of Donata Maddalena Satriani.

She was born 16 Mar 1821 in Sant' Arcangelo Potenza Italy. On 20 Nov 1837 she married Don Giovanni Castrnuovo.

I think this might be the correct record. https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 55/0JoYlWd

Can someone verify that it is a match and if so please help with the translation.

Thank you,
Eileen

Wrong record. The deceased is Maria Maddalena Casalnuovo, 19yo, single.

Hi Eileen

Just a couple of things:

In Italia women, when they marry keep their maiden name, so in the Italian records you’ll be searching under S for Satriani and not her husband’s name beginning with C……..

Are you able to post her 1821 birth record from Sant’Arcangelo, Potenza and her 1837 marriage to Don Giovanni C…..

I’m wondering if Maddalena was born in Potenza, why you might be looking for her death record in neighbouring province Matera? Possibly they married or moved to Montalbano Jonico which isn’t so far from Sant’Archangelo. (Generally though, the marriage takes place in the bride’s birth town, but not always). If you could give us some more detail someone may be available to help you look for the correct death record. Sighting Maddalena’s birth record and their marriage record would be of great help if you are able to post those. (I don’t have the time to search myself at the minute.)

I just had a quick look and promptly found Maddalena's birth record. Here it is for reference.

Birth No 37: Maddalena Satriani
Born 16 March 1821
Parents Don Filippo Satriani and Sig. Grazia Rugieri
https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 47/03ln6nY

I believe her husband her husband's surname was Castronuovo - D. Giovanni Castronuovo.

Edit to Add:

And here is their 1837 Marriage Record No 31. They were both born in Santarcangelo, Potenza:

Hi again

I've had a little search on the forum and fortunately came across the following info pertaining to daughter Angela. In 1882, according to daughter Angela’s request to publish marriage banns, I am understanding that parents Maddalena and Giovanni were both still living and residing in Sant'Arcangelo.

I would be searching death records in Sant'Arcangelo, 1882 onwards for Maddalena's death record. If you have information that suggests that maybe she had moved towns, please let us know and we can help locate.

On going through some of the indices from 1882 looking for Giovanni and Maddalena's death records I noticed that Giovanni's surname was spelt Castronnuovo with two n's. I only looked at the years with indices. A lot of the years didn't have any indices. I saw lots of Giovanni's but they were all children. I didn't see too many Satriani's and no Maddalena Satriani.

Eileen, I decided to go through the birth records to look for other children born to Giovanni and Maddalena, thinking I'd then look for their marriage records in the hope that I'd be able to narrow down approximately when Maddalena died. Because there are so many years missing indices, and the volume of deaths that took place each year in the town, it would take a while to go through each year page by page, and I personally don't have the time due to other obligations here and elsewhere. Anyways, looking for the birth records has taken a bit of time too, because they had so many children. I've gone to 1865 inclusive and will post them here, in case it helps someone else who is also researching this family. They may have had one or two more children after 1865 as they were both still in their 40's. There are some repetition of names so it is possible some of the children passed when they were little. I've changed my mind about the spelling of the surname - it is definitely spelt Castronuovo in these earlier records so I'll go with that.

Other children born to Don Giovanni Castronuovo and Donna Maddalena Satriani:

Birth (No 33) of daughter, Rosa Castronuovo, 18 February 1839
Parents Don Giovanni Castronuovo and Donna Maddalena Satriani

Birth (No 45) of son Filippo, Michele Castronuovo, 5 May 1842

Birth (No 44) of Grazia Castronuovo, 3 May 1844

Birth (No 43) of Rosa Castronuovo, 7 April 1846

Birth (No 64) of Carmina Margarita Castronuovo, 16 July 1848

Birth (No 115) of Lucia Castronuovo, 4 November 1853

I'll carry on in my next post as I'm not sure about the number of links in each post that are allowed.
