no (recognizable) shared matches between 2 huge clusters of low-48cm matches?

Genetic genealogy is the application of genetics to traditional genealogy. Genetic genealogy involves the use of genealogical DNA testing to determine the level and type of the genetic relationship between individuals.

no (recognizable) shared matches between 2 huge clusters of low-48cm matches?

Post by lyn1982 »

This is really bothering me - but I have 2 clusters of matches that I've identified as belonging to my great grandfather (foundling)'s line, based off process of elimination. But I have a 2nd cousin and a 1c1r - the 1c1r is a generation closer to my ggf than I am and nobody in either cluster matches them. There's over 50 in each cluster - the clusters don't overlap at all either.

There is a mystery match to me - 357 shared cms. They match nobody in one of the clusters but match several in the other. They also match high with my above mentioned 2nd cousin and my 1c1r. I've viewed their tree - well kinda - they didn't have a tree but it was easy to make one for them by using the info on their profile + obits. Their ancestors lived near mine in Niagara Falls but that's all - this person shows 25% Italian but none of their ancestors are Italian. They share most of the matches on my great grandmothers line as well. No matches to my fathers paternal line.

Does anyone know if this is normal or should I be worried - maybe I'm being paranoid, but I keep feeling like somethings not right here. Plus my grandmother was named Angeline - 5 of her 6 siblings had same names as her foundling fathers siblings or cousins? (I'm unsure of relationship but its cousin on passenger manifest) kids and the one that didn't was named after the foundling - it just strikes me as odd that a 3rd of 7 has a name not found in either parents family.

As I just being paranoid?
