Baron Ernest Otto Trip(p), lieutenant-colonel in the British Army, suicide Florence, October or November 1816

Post by Axonais »

Baron Ernest Otto (or Otto Ern(e)st) Trip(p) was a lieutenant-colonel in the British Army and in 1814-1815 aide-de-camp to the Prince of Orange, later King William II of the Netherlands, then a general in said army. He fought in the Battle of Waterloo in June 1815. He was a companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, a British order of chivalry for distinguished military service. Trip(p) was born in the Netherlands in December 1774. He was a bachelor.

According to British, Belgian and French newspapers and published letters he shot himself in October or begin November 1816 in Florence. His father in Holland received a letter stating that his son died in Florence on the 2nd of November 1816. According to an other letter dated 1st November 1816 he committed suicide shortly before that date.

My question is whether the death of Ernest Otto Trip(p) has been recorded in the registration of births, marriages and death (’stato civile’) of Florence in 1816, and if so whether it could be possible to obtain a photocopy or scan of the registration (‘certificato di morte’).

Could it be possible to find where and when he was burried?

Many thanks in advance for any help in this matter.

I've looked here, and couldn't find him in October, nor November:

I don't know if this list is complete, but, however, he might have died in a nearby town.
