Re: Translation help
This is the birth of a foundling...
On 21 October 1879, Concetta Sena/Serra, a 40yo spinner, appeared before the official at the town hall in S. Marco Argentano, to present a male childwho appeared to be 3 days old [so born about 18 October], who was found with a band of white, 3 ??? of white canvas, and a handkerchief of white, and who she declared was found at 4 AM outside near her home. The official imposed the name Rosalbino and the surname Barca.
He was sent to the ospezia di Consenzo with a copy of this act.
The two names at the end are Witnesses to the recording of the birth act at the town hall.

…….a white cotton band, three white cloth pieces, a white cap and a white handkerchief, all torn…..
He was sent to the Ospizio di Cosenza.

Re: Translation help
Thank you for your help!!! I’m curious how a name was chosen given it’s not a classic foundling name, and I know he wasn’t taken in/raised by Barcas, nor was that a common last name in that communeTessa78 wrote: 17 Jan 2026, 14:15 This is the birth of a foundling...

Re: Translation help
The name was chosen by the official of the town. It was usually a "fantasy name" or one not found in the town. Many towns gave the surnames like "Proietti" "Trovato" or "Esposito" to foundlings which made it obvious that they were abandoned.

Ah so it’s unlikely it had any ties to his real parents?Tessa78 wrote: 17 Jan 2026, 19:45 The name was chosen by the official of the town.
