Marianna a.k.a. Anna Caccioppoli

Post by campcantreg »

We are at a brick wall in an attempt to find out about our great grandmother "Anna" Caccioppoli born in Vico Equense sometime between 1868 to 1873. She married my great grandfather Luigi Capozzi. They both arrived in America 1893 with their first born child Fortunata Capozzi. They initially settled in Hell's Kitchen then ultimately West New York, New Jersey. She died in New Jersey August of 1930.
We simply have no additional information about her such as when she was born, when she married, the names of her parents and possible siblings.

Please assist since we can not locate any solid information. Only other information we have is she was known as "Anna", but her name may also have been "Marianna".

Here is the arrival in 1893

The family in the 1905 NYS Census (beginning line 34)
Residing on West 39th Street

Unfortunately, the years 1866-1900 are not available online for Vivo Equense, where you might find her birth, marriage, and birth of Fortunata.
You could write directly to the comune to request these.

Here is a badly mangled groom's name that looks to be a good candidate for your Luigi Capozzi.... Bride is Marianna Caccioppoli.
Dated of marriage: 13 November 1892
Place of marriage: Vico Equense
Record #9

I could not open the link, but all indication is this appears to be their marriage information." Luigi Capozzi.... Bride is Marianna Caccioppoli.
Dated of marriage: 13 November 1892
Place of marriage: Vico Equense
Record #9"

By any chance, does it mention the names of her parents. This would be a tremendous help.

I wonder if this Fortunata Caccioppoli could be an older sister of Anna.

The scenario is that Luigi and Anna named their daughter Fortunata after the deceased sister of Anna. The names of the parents of the deceased Fortunata are Luigia and Ciro matching names of other children of Luigi and Anna. Mary was born before Lucia (so she might have been named after Luigi's mother) and Vincent was born before Ciro (so he might have been Luigi's father). If you have Luigi's birth record that would help.

I think I saw a Luigi born in 1861 with parents Frederico and Agata, not fitting my scenario, unless Luigi and Anna didn't name children after the paternal grandparents or children they so-named died young.

This Luigi's parents are Federico and Agata Cinque? If that's your Luigi, then my scenario isn't supported.

Marianna Caccippoli (my great grandmother) married Luigi Capozzi (my great grandfather). His parents were Federico Capozzi and Agata Cinque. The very big mystery/brick wall is no information regarding the parents of Marianna Caccioppoli.

I will attempt to email demografici@vicoequense.gov.it for further assistance in locating either a birth or marriage record for Marianna Caccippoli which should contain the names of her parents.

I will also contact the cemetery in New Jersey where she died in 1930. Wonder if they can be of assistance?

Update: As of current, we are still awaiting email response from Vico Equense Ufficio di Anagrafe regarding either a birth or marriage record for Marianna Caccioppoli. Marriage record indicated she married 1892 but no image is available on the Family Search Site.

Does anyone know what might be the last year Family Search shows for birth information. Looks like we were able to see up to 1869. Please confirm.

The latest vital records online for Vico Equense cover 1901-1929 on Family Search but, as Tessa already mentioned, there is a gap between 1866 to 1900.
