Costabile and DeLuca
Re: Costabile and DeLuca
I think I figured out the two listings for Dominico Costabile. My ancestor was married to Lizette (Elizabeth) DeLuca. The Dominico in the first listing (1908) is married to Rose (per my original information, Rose is Dominic's Mother).
Also, I noticed that in the 1908 listing he is listed as a Trader ... in the 1905 listing, he is a Tailor which fits my information perfectly.

Re: Costabile and DeLuca
Current surnames in Calvanico. Costabile, DeLuca & Sabareses (suanj does it again! Great Job!) are listed, so you most likely have relatives still living in this town.

Unfortunately, the LDS Church (Mormans) have not filmed the civil records for this town
, so you will have to write for all birth, marriage & death acts. Here is the address.
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Comune di Calvanico
84080 CALVANICO (SA)
ITALY
Letter should be in Italian & include a self address return envelope, a copy of your photo ID, and an international reply coupon (obtain from your post office. It covers the return postage).
Here is a link to some form letters.

Good luck in your research. Hope this helps.

Re: Costabile and DeLuca
OK, now I'm confused.
My ancestor Dominic Costable was born in 1896 - verified per SSDI, 1920 Census, WWI Draft Registration and WWII Draft Registration.
BOTH Ellis Island listings are almost 10 years older than my ancestor.

The 1920 census that vj provided shows that naturalization is pending....You may want to write to the Common Pleas Court in Westmoreland to do a search for his naturalization record.....Should provide information (date & ship name) on his entry into the US.

Thanks for the thought - that should clear it up quite easily. I've got some relatives in the area, maybe I can get someone to stop by for me.

Re: Costabile and DeLuca
OK, I've been able to piece together almost all of what was gathered ... I've found a little more information, but not much.
Michael De Luca married Agnesa Sabarete (Sabarese)
Michael was born according to my information abt 1860 Italy.
- He died in 1940.
Agnes was born abt 1859 according to the ship records previously located.
I can't seem to locate Michael in Ellis Island or Census records.
My understanding is that they both wound up in Connellsville, PA where Lizette De Luca was born, 02 Jul 1898.
Any assistance with Michael would be greatly appreciated ... I will be looking later (gotta' say hello to the Wife!) ...

Re: Costabile and DeLuca
jcsm,
Michael Deluka should work (look for Mt Pleasant),
and for 1920 try Delecka
all found by a no name search:
PA, Westmoreland
b in Italy 1860
(this option didn't work a few days ago, maybe ancestry's getting better)
thanks for taking time to link!

Re: Costabile and DeLuca
Those both look very promising ... this information is SO close and Lizette and parents birth information is correct as far as I can tell.
I'll keep pushing it ... I'll be able to check with my mother over the next few days.
