Help with a marriage record and baptismal for a Briganti

Post by italian059 »

Would someone please translate this marriage and baptismal. The marriage record is for Salvatore Briganti and Francesca Lorello. The baptismal is for a Maria Briganti who I think is their child but the dates are not matching up. Would appreciate another set of eyes on these.
The marriage record is #2237. The baptismal is the third record on the right side of the page.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Not sure I am reading these correctly.
Mary

Hi Mary

Yes, it looks like Salvatore and Francesca were married two weeks before their baby Maria was born. I’ve located Maria’s Birth Record and translated it as I noticed the Baptism Record wasn’t very clear in one place. Someone who reads Latin can look at the two records you have posted.

Birth No 34 – Maria Briganti
Registered in Corleone on 23 January 1871

The midwife presented a baby girl reporting that she was born from Francesca Paola Lorello, 26 yo, living in Corleone, Via San Giovanni Battista and from Salvatore Briganti, (married couple), 27 yo, villico, living Corleone. The baby was born on 22 January, 1871, at 11 am in the house of its parents and was given the name of Maria.

Thanks so much. I kept thinking I was reading the dates wrong.

You weren't. It must have been a "shotgun" wedding.

Baptised on 23 January 1871 in Corleone, at the Church of San Martino.
The baby girl, born the previous day at 11 pm to Salvatore and Francesca Paola Lorello, a married couple from this community, was named Maria. Her godmother was Biagia Cascio, wife of Vincenzo Spadafora.
