Hello,

The below link is for Monreale 1575 deaths.

My question. All the records have "Apestato" or "Apestato" after the name. What is that?

They all died as a result of a plague. I don't know which one though. It may have been a second occurence of the Bubonic plague (black death) or maybe something else. Someone else will know.

That's incredible, almost everyone on that page died of the plague.

From what I can see online, Palermo was hit with a plague from 1575 and 1577. You may want to explore this further.

Il termine in italiano contemporaneo è 'appestato' (2 'p'), da 'peste'.

In realtà il numero dei morti a Palermo è stato di circa 3,100, molto basso per le pestilenze di quei tempi (~50,000 a Venezia). Questo è dovuto alle misure draconiane assunte da Giovanni Filippo Ingrassia.
