Thank you Maria!!!

Re: Joseph Lise - World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918 Record (had 3 children by then)

It appears to be my great grandfather because my great grandfather had 3 children (William, Maria and Reta by year 1917). The birth certificate of my grandfather should confirm whether we're talking about the same person. Hopefully the date of birth of Joseph Lise would be included in the certificate...

Are World War I Draft records useful in anyway I wonder?

Link to Belluno Province info

Link to Belluno city info

Lived on 21 Downing(sp?) St. New York, naturalized, born in Belluno, employed by Nicolo as a Tile Setter, was considered tall and slender, brown eyes, chestnut hair...

I will also try to zoom in on the person that Giuseppe went visit - which is mentioned on his manifest... hopefully I can post an enlarged sample.

Wondering if Reta was shortened from the name Margherita...

Back soon...

Wow brilliant. Santa Giustina is in Belluno so the Ellis Island Records (1909 and 1902) are highly likely to be relevant!

There's Antonio Lise (from Belluno as well) who's likely to be Joseph's father. Here's the link to the relevant Ellis Island Record (probably wasn't the first time he arrived in the US, I'm assuming).

When it says "Non Immigrant Alien" (stamped), does it mean he already immigrated to the US prior to that journey?

See the "x" next to his name? He could have been detained for some reason... I will do a search for a detained ships list

Link to View of Name - maybe detained?
------------------------
Link to where Born in Italy - Jiustina - Giustina...?
------------------------
Link to Next of Kin - father Guiseppe in Meano, Italy

Last Permanent Residence in Italy was Meano
------------------------
Looks like Guiseppe was also in the USA for a period from 1902 - 1908
Another manifest?? :P :P

Link to Chianasi in NY? relative or father?

There's a "detained ships list"? You know a lot Maria... thanks again. I don't know how I would have progressed without your help!

Thank you Marcia,

I had no idea who you were yesterday when I read your post and replied... it wasn't till later I had realised who you were... nice to see you back. :P

I will do a detained list search after I post this...

It may or may not be there...

We need to find a 1902 +- manifest...
--------------------------
We need to find a 1910 census record of Chianasi at McDougal St.... see Guiseppe's manifest... any volunteers...?? http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/3346 ... asisk4.jpg
---------------------------

Find out who Chianasi is....

We need to sort out these cities.. Belluno (on Draft card) / Juistina / Jiustina..../ Meano... etc.

Consider whether this is your Guiseppe Lise...

Lots to look forward to...

Maria :P

It does say father.... it certainly doesn't make this research any easier eh?? It could be an error... but now we have an address to work with too...

Sure... Chianasi could be a surname... something to consider.... but the name Chiane, Chianne, Chianna, are also given names... (I'm sure there are other variations)

Had it been his surname listed on his manifest, they might have listed his given name as well... don't know... something to look into...

I'm 70% sure that the WWI draft reg record is that of my great grandfather because of the number of child and age etc. That Antonio Lise record is interesting isn't it. Maybe he's not related though..

It'd be good if I can locate Joseph Lise and Josephine Toia's marriage record but I don't know where they got married!

It's like a game isn't it! :) I'm actually having my second cup of coffee today too. hehe.

Found a Record of Detained Aliens... :P

Guiseppe's Detained Record

says "he has to phone" under Reason for Detention... - "father Guis. at 69 McDaugal (sp?) St." is mentioned under the DISPOSITION column...

So now we have a Chianasi and a Guis. (listed as fathers) in NY, and a Guiseppe in Italy.....

I think the info on the Record of Detained Aliens would be more correct...
But I have no proof... a 1910 census record of this address would help...

Oh no... getting more confusing. But then Guis. is Guiseppe isn't it? Maybe The Guiseppe in Italy and Guis. at 69 McDaugal Street are identical people?
But this Chianasi is in the way somehow isn't it.
