Carmella's father's name is Gabriel Castello. Her mother's name was was Columbia Monaco. I don't know whether or not they came to the United States.

Thank you for any help you can give me. I am trying to put as much family information together as I can as a surprise for my husband's grandparents.

Hi Angie,

Instead of waiting til you go to Capracotta, you may want to order/rent the LDS Church (Mormons) films that are available for this town. The are copies of the original birth, marriage, & deaths for 1809-1899.

Link to available films.

Link to locate your nearest LDS-Family History Center.

A guide on ordering these films.

Do you need an Italian-English genealogical word list to help with the translation?

Hope this helps some.

Hi vj!

I didn't notice the passenger on line 19!

Once I started to check further, I realised that there is still a fair bit of positive online research that can be done! Good eye! Thank you!!!

He's a few years older than Carmela.. not sure what the relationship is.... but it does seem that they were going to the same address...

At one point I started to look for Burlington census records - looking for the same street.. but am wondering now if Burlington County changed it's name at one point... towards the 1930's...

Seems like there was some activity in 1913 too based on the other Filippo manifests.. just haven't had a chance to review them.

Thank you, Angie.

How do you travel to Capracotta from Bavaria?

I read your other posts about researching Monaco ancestors.

Here is a manifest of a Michelina Monaco - married to Luigi Castello. Not sure if she is related to your Antonia.

The Ellis Island data transcriptions have her listed as a Costello... but the name Monaco is cleary marked on the manifest.

Luigi's manifest mentions that the closest living relative in Italy is his father Michelangelo Costello.

It also mentions that he would be going to his brother Filippo's home at 421 Lafaiette St, Bristol, PA

First Name: Luigi
Last Name: Castello
Ethnicity: Italian South, Italy
Last Place of Residence: Capracotta, Campobasso
Date of Arrival: Nov 11, 1907
Age at Arrival: 24y Gender: M Marital Status: M

Hi Speranza,

Thank you! Thank you! This is definately the Carmela I have been looking for. (With all the searches I tried I can't imagine how I didn't find her unless this page only recently became available.) When I kept hitting dead ends a few months ago I asked my husband's grandmother for any other information she had about her mother's trip to America and she told me that her oldest sister, Laura, was named for the ship her mother came to America on! So this must be the right one--the date is right, the father is right, and the ship is right!

I can't thank you enough for your help with this. And I can't wait to share the news with family and follow up on the other relatives mentioned in this manifest!

And vj,

Thanks for your catch re: Fillippo on line 19!

Hello p2ehling,

Dmqhetos (daughter) Costello.... ?

Sometimes I search for manifests from this data only www.castlegarden.org site because the transcriptions are far better... but the ship "Laura" isn't on the list... (well not yet...)

Sad that the transcriptions are so bad.... what you might consider is filling out the Ellis Annotation Form for her manifest and filling in the correct information. Do it for Carmela.

Please keep us updated - nice to see that you are working with your husbands grandmother... what a way to remember a ship!!

Should be interesting to find out if or how Filippo is related...

Thank you for your message
