GIUFFRE
Re: GIUFFRE
Hey Nuccia,
I also wanted to show you what a fellow Giuffre in the States found out about my great-great grandmother Carmela Lacavera. You were looking into some details for her a while back:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just want to tell you that your great-great-grandmother, Carmela LaCavera, is listed on her marriage record as Maria Carmela Cavera. She is listed on her birth record as Maria Carmela Vincenza Cavera. On the marriage record of her daughter, Salvatora, she is listed as Maria Carmela LaCavera. On the marriage record of her son, Francesco Eduardo Giuffre, she is listed as Carmela LaCavera. On the marriage record of her son, Giuseppe (your great-grandfather), she is listed as Carmela LaCavera.

Re: GIUFFRE
Wow..I'm not really surprised though. It was common to have the name Maria as a first name and then Antonia, Carmela, Teresa, Rosa, etc afterwards. This was a possibility though we never looked into before when we were trying to locate records was it?
Need to go back through this thread and see if we can find anything else now under this name.

Re: GIUFFRE
The most interesting thing i found was the fact that they dropped the "La" in Lacavera. Sometimes Lacavera, other times Cavera. Strange indeed..

Re: GIUFFRE
I also am having a hard time finding out my grandparents' parents. They came from Sicily in about 1917 and went to Toronto. They then came to Akron, Ohio. My grandfather was Anthony Rinella and he married Catherine (Chiara) Scalia. He was born around 1896 and she was born around 1898. He died in Akron in 1965 and she died in Lorain in 1983. They had 3 children, Joseph born 1915, Rose born in 1917 and Sam (Salvatore) born in 1920. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: GIUFFRE
I failed to mention that somewhere in that mix I have relatives in Toronto. We use to visit when I was small. I know it was Joseph and Maria Caruso and they had daughters names Rosa and Elena. They lived on Palmerston Square but not sure how they were related.
