Feudale

Post by JNicholas »

Does anyone have a clue on this? I've checked everywhere and have come up with nothing using all kinds of different spellings including P and T.

My maternal grandmother, Concetta Feudale (Married name: Nestico) was born in Isca on 1 April 1899 and came to this country around 1904. Her parents were Pasquale and Barbara. Siblings were James and Theresa. She died in December of 1984.

Although I was able to locate my grandfather in a matter of minutes on an Ellis Island check, I could get nowhere with my grandmother. I contacted my grandmother's 85 year old niece and verified the spelling. She told me the port of entry was New York.

Thanks very much for any help on this.

Hi John!
If she traveled with her mother, she may
be found under her mother's maiden name.

Thanks Valarie. I'll check that. Her mother was Barbara Pirelli but would she be traveling under her maiden name?

Normally, Italian women used their maiden names
on the manifest (in Italy they keep their maiden
names). Her children should be listed under their
father's name.

On the 1905 manifest, I noticed that Barbara stated previously in US. And the destination is Shamokin PA which is about 16 miles due west of Girardville. edited to add comment. In checking ship manifests for emigrants from Isca, many settled in the anthracite coal towns of Northeastern Pennsylvanina.

I found my nonna and many cousins under their Mother's maiden names.
In Italy the women keep and use only their maiden names (except in social settings).

Biff,

Yes. They settled in Marion Heights. It was my paternal grandparents who were in Girardville after a stint in NY state.

Thanks!
