Old pictures, Who are they!!?

denissebarilani · Post by **denissebarilani** » 09 Jan 2008, 20:34

I've uploaded some old pictures my family brought with them from Italy.
Don't know who they are or why we have them.

Do you know?

Denise,
Some pictures are already identified: 1- Umberto I, King of Italy, b.1844, crowned 1878, d.1900. Only king of Italy to die by the hand of an anarchist (possibly the one with scarf around a neck? not sure).
2- Margherita of Savoy, his wife, Queen of Italy.
3- Young Vittorio Emanuelle III, his heir and successor, Prince of Naples - must research, not sure.
Others I assume are officers and ministers of the period. It will be easy to find an illus. book for that period .

Denise,
One more with decorations, may be Umberto's predecessor.

Thanks for the help Aether

Where would I find that book? In a regular library?
Any idea why my ggparents would have them? Could my ggfather have been in the military himself?

Denisse,

I believe the genealogistas of this Forum will be able to help you regarding your family background. At first sight it seem they were monarchists, however knowing how things are in Italy - perhaps NOT!

For the history of the Casa Savoia check the internet, and books on 18th-19th and on, for Italian political history.
To start with check Indro Montanelli "L'Italia dei Notabili" you will find some info. there, and check the bibliografia, and cronologia for the period.

Let me know how it goes. Next week I will have more time do do a checking, should you need.
(Check University libraries.)
Good luck! Aether

Denisse,

At the Forum you have great genealogists, they will be able to give you all the information you may need. I had seen sometime ago other portraits of the Savoy family posted on the Site's photo column. Check with PeterTimber.

All the best, Aether
