Searching for Gr. Grandparents and family in Italy unsure where to begin this part of the search.
Gr.Grandfather surname Leapello (spelling variations Lippello or Leppello or Lapello)
Gr Grandmother maiden name Romano
They married in Italy (somewhere)They lived in Napels (I think) and 2 children were born there as there documents show Napels or S. Italy as birth place.
Then immigrated to USA out of a port in France landing in NY.
Can't seem to find where what happen to them upon arrival. Where would I find info/documents that would show where they would go when they first arrive.
Any help would be appreciative.
Thanks in adance
Family surnames Leapello/Romano
Re: Family surnames Leapello/Romano
Usually, depending on year, the ship manifest will list destination.
Also, census records will identify the family. In what US state did they reside in?
Census records will also list naturalization status, which in turn can lead to naturalization documents which may state the exact town of origin, if the ship manifest didn't do so.
There is also the WW1 and WW2 draft registrations which sometimes contain the place of birth.
Many of our members have paid databases and can look up this information, unless you prefer to do the search yourself.
Let us know how we can help.

I have done some research in the canadian census but I have had difficulty with the US records Don't know if they had US naturalization papers or not. If they lived in the States NY and or Ohio would they have to have these papers?
I know they arrived into New York Oct 25 1886 but i do not know if they stayed in that state or continued there journey directly to Youngstown Ohio . Where would I begin to look ?
Yes thank you I have found that also a WW1 registration .... that definately is my grandfather and lists my grandmother and my uncle as child.
I am also looking for Gr Grandfather who is also named John searching for his home town in Italy/death place (which I think is in toronto Ontario)
His records seem to be more difficult to find
