The earliest record for the surname Spinoila appears to be in 1105 both as Spinola and Spinula and orginates in the Liguria region of Italy and is attributed a well known family where tradition has it that the family originated in Pavia Province, Lombardia where they had feudal holdings during the middle ages prior to becoming prominent among Genovese society of the times.
