Giordani surname and family information

Hello all. I was hoping to get some information on the Giordani surname and my great grandparents.

I have the Ellis island information for my family. Francesco Giordani was born in the mid 1860's and travelled to the USA (Ohio) in 1901. The paperwork showed that his passage was paid by a cousin named John DeMettio. Francesco left behind a wife (teresa) and 4 children (Guiseppe, Giovanni, Domenico and Giuseppino) who would travel over to meet him in 1903. For some reason, the paperwork for Teresa and the children is listed as Giordanio, but I do not think that is correct.

The documents state that the last residence for Francesco was in DiBronzollo. The documents state that the last place of residence for Teresa was Pederzano.

I do not know Teresa's maiden name, but I have heard one person in my family say something about it possibly being Corti??

The family changed their names to Frank, Teresa, John, Joseph, Domenick and Josephine Downing when they got to the states, so it has been very hard finding any information. I would appreciate any suggestions on information, etc...

Wow...this is all some great information...however, all the different names are confusing. We go from Giordani to Gioradi to Jordanae. I wish I could find some concrete evidence from European documents, but no such luck as of yet.

Census records are notorious for misspellings. Other than the original birth certificate, the ship's manifest is most reliable. I believe Giordani is the correct spelling, and I think that Villa Lagarina is the correct comune of birth. Both Giordani and Curti are surnames that exist in that town.

Just an update....I used the death certificate of Francisco Jordanae (which I knew wasnt correct) and I was able to find his real name and parents using familysearch.org.

The real name was Francesco Giacinto Giordani (born in Pederzano, Trento, Italy). His parents werent as listed on the death certificate, but were close. They were actually Davide DiAmadio Giordani and Innocente Cavalieri.

Thank you all for the help. I would have never found this without you. Feel free to send me anything on the Curti or Sanderi surnames if you know anything!
