where to get italian birth certificat

hi can anyone give me an address and what i need to write to get a birth certificat from genoa the region is chevari ( i think thats how u spell it). Many thanks

I believe the town name to which you are referring is Chiavara.

The following is an email address for the town's anagrafe or registry office which houses birth records, etc.

anagrafe@comune.chiavari.ge.it (no spaces in the email address)

When writing via mail to this office, send a self-addressed but not stamped envelope. Do not include money. Most of the towns will send you record copies at no charge.

I should add that you should never request more than 1 or 2 things at a time. Also the more specific you are with the information you provide them with, the better your chances of getting the copies you want. There could be more than one person with the same name as your ancestor, even born around the same time, so try to provide as much information as you know. If you need to give an estimated year of birth, for example, try to narrow the range to about a five year period. If you give too wide a range, they may not look for the information in their registers.

I forgot to give you this link which is for the official website for the town of Chiavari (accidentally spelled it incorrectly above in my first response).

If you click on entra nel sito at the lower right of the screen, and go to the next screen. In the center of the right column on that screen, it says La Citta and there is an option for mostra. Click on that and you will see some very nice photos of the town.
