Hi- I am a fairly new member to the forum and have gained so much information about my family through this site.
I have a "merchant marine" certificate from my great grandfather, Salvatore Trapani- images attached. I am able to make out some information, ie his parents name are Giuseppe Trapani and Rachel Cacase, and I figured out his date of birth 25 Feb 1853. However, I cannot translate the rest of the certificate. What does this certificate represent? It lists a number of different cities throughout the world. Are these places he already traveled to or cities he has permission to travel to?
Thank you
Susan

Re: translation help
I believe the mother's name is Rachele Cacace.
The document is the promotion to "Capitano di gran cabotaggio", so Salvatore can be the Commander of Ships over 500 Tons. The palces listed are the places were he has permission to travel.
