Looking for great grandfathers birth/death certificate

Post by Mguster »

Hello, I am researching our Italian family history and struggling to find information regarding my great grandfather. I was told he was born in Italy (possibly Scapoli, Prov, Campobasso) and his name was George (Giorgio) Rocco Guster (Gasbarra or Gasbarro, we have seen it listed both spellings). He was born about 1872 (estimating from census records) and died when he went back home to Italy to visit relatives in 1910 (same city as listed above). He took his two older sons, Charles (Carmine) and Gerald (Gerardo) with him at the time but died unexpectedly while over there.

I am looking for original surnames on birth or death certificates, and possible reason of death while his visit back to Italy. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Here is a link to the 1910 census: http://us-census.mooseroots.com/l/35656 ... ugio-Gusto

It appears all of the first names are spelled incorrectly in this cenus, which leaves me to believe their last name, "Gusto", is also spelled incorrect? They changed their name at some point but I cannot find records of when. According to my grandfathers death certificate, his fathers name was George Rocco Guster and his mothers name was Antonette D'Agostino (maiden name).

My understanding is that our great grandfather, George Guster, died of an apparent heart attack while crossing the street with his two boys in about 1912 or 1913. I believe he was 39 years old. This is similar to how several of his children would later die--heart attacks--and only one of them even made it to a hospital--they were all dead when they hit the ground, from what I have heard, except for Richard in 1967. He died suddenly in a hospital in Canton, Ohio of a suspected heart issue. Jim was approximately 42, Mary was 60, Richard was 59. Charles, Rocco and Gerald would die of lung cancer (all smoked heavily at one time or another.) Other cancer victims were Bill (leukemia) and Louis (stomach.) Rose died at an advanced age of natural causes which were not determined (there was no autopsy due to her age and the circumstances.) Betty died of a blood infection. I have no information on the causes of death of the Rossi brothers.
