death records search in campania & sicily

Post by mezzogiorno62 »

as i've spent the last 20 years trying to find the following death records, using all available means and methods,my only hope is that someone out there connected to these subjects may be able to help. i know its like looking for a needle in a haystack, but i'm totally out of alternatives. i've done it all and have no leads. working in a total vacuum. 1.possible death in luogosano avellino (campania) for rosa martino(wife of giovanni ricca) died ca.1862-1865. these years are missing in the civil registers. 2.possible death in palermo or barcellona pg messina (sicily) for francesco landino (common law husband of maria bonarrigo) died ca.1912-1950. palermo was his birthplace but he lived in barcellona pg for a time. also lived in boston ma. usa ca.1900=1912 but i can't find a death record there. may have returned to sicily. 3.& 4.deaths of domenico bonarrigo & wife mattia puleio ca.1852-1902. possibly in gualtieri sicamino (messina) or a neighboring comune. these are the names, approximate years of death, and the possible localities. as i said,i've researched these deaths for 20 years with no luck. that includes writing to all the comunes in question. any further help or suggestions as to how to proceed would be most appreciated.

Have you tried obtaining a Certificati di Famiglia Storici for these people in the local communes? If you are able to find this, it will tell you where they immigrated to. Then you can contact that commune for a death certificate.

I feel your pain though. Some people are more difficult to track than others.

tried everything as i said. the lds films and countless letters of inquiry. my only hope would be to actually connect with another researcher seeking the same records for the same people. highly unlikely. a needle in a haystack.

Have you tried either hiring a researcher or physically going to the commune?

There is a very good researcher that I hired through one of the Facebook groups I'm on. He specializes in more modern records. I originally hired him to locate living family in Italy....and he has not disappointed. I've found a ton of people that I originally couldn't find. If you want, I can give you his info.

thanks. i've been doing research for 20 years now and have 90% of what i'm looking for. plus i don't have the money to hire researchers in one area, never mind two. both messina and avellino. i also mentioned that my only hope in locating the records i'm seeking is probably going to be through actually connecting with other family members who are also seeking the same information,or who already have it. i've searched all the civil records available,as well as written countless letters of inquiry to the comunes. going to the localities would yield no further results that i can see. this is down to a close knit family search-and thats like searching for a needle in a haystack.
