Post by lindsy.williams »

Hi,
I've found a marriage record that I need help to translate. I think I've made out the usual info, but this record has quite a bit also written down below. Is anyone able to make it out?

If I understand, what is written below is about the posting of banns, that took place on Jan 2nd and Jan 9th, 1887, for three days in a row; a certificate (in the "allegati", if present) states that there was no opposition.
Giuseppe "Pippo" Moccaldi

In the year 1887, on the twenty-first of January, at one o'clock and seven minutes, in the Municipal House of Marianapoli, open to the public, came before me Gioachino Baldi, the council member functioning as mayor and official of the Civil State, formally vested, and (the following) appeared in person:

1. Arnone Giuseppe Celile, aged twenty-eight, carter, born in Marianopoli, residing in Marianopoli, son of the late Gaetano, who resided here in life, and Ferrara Santasei, who resided here in life;
2. Pinzolo Giuseppa Nubile, aged twenty-two, seamstress, born in Marianopoli, residing in Marianopoli, daughter of the late Ventura, who resided here in life, and of the late Maria Morreale, who resided here in life,

who asked me to join them in marriage; to this effect they presented the document described below; and from the examination of this (document, and) not of those (that were) already produced at the time of the request, for the document, all of which bear my visa, placed in the repository of this register, (having proved there is) nothing (that would) prevent the celebration of their marriage, I read the spouses Articles 130, 131, and 132 of the Civil Code, and therefore, I asked the groom if he intends to take the present Pinozlo Giuseppa as a wife, and to this, if she intends to take the present Arnone Giuseppe as a husband; and having each answered affirmatively, both with full understanding and with the full understanding of the witnesses indicated below, I pronounced, in the name of the law, that they are united in marriage.

The following were present: Notarstefano Giuseppe, aged twenty-nine, tailor, and Mariano Giuseppe, aged thirty-one, renter, both residing in this Municipality. The document presented, and the certificate of the publications carried out in this Municipality, that is, the first of (those dated to) January 2nd 1887, (and) the second of (those dated to the) ninth (of) said month and year, and so on, in three consecutive days, from which it is assured that no opposition to the Marriage has been proposed from [can't read this word]

Having read this deed, the groom and the witnesses, not the Bride as she is known to be illiterate, have signed:

Arnone Giuseppe,
Notarstefano Giuseppe,
Mariano Giuseppe

(and) the functioning Mayor
Gioachino Baldi
