Finding names and information on my 2nd great grandfather and his wife/family

Post by Kaylie »

My 2nd great grandfather was Isidoro Vaccarino, born in 1832, died 12/30/1909. He was married to Giuseppa Leotta in 1 September 1851 (born 1824, died 1899). Her parents were Rosario Leotta and Angela Serafina. I would like to know the names of his parents and any brothers or sisters he may have had. I do not know how to search Antenati and hoped you could help me find the information I am looking for. I look forward to your reply Thank you

Do you know where Isidoro was born or where he got married?

Here is the marriage in 1851 in Riposto.
Isidoro is age 19, born in Riposto, the son of unknown parents.

The marriage notification in August.
Isidoro is listed as age 20.

Isidoro was born in Riposto (province of Catania). I believe he was also married in Riposto. Since his first born son was Pasquale, I am thinking his father’s name was Pasquale.

I posted the marriage of Isidoro Vaccarino and Giuseppa Leotta above for you.

The marriage record states that Isidoro was born to unknown parents.

The groom had to present his birth act to the official to be married. The official records the date and place of birth as well as parent's names from the birth act.

I have checked the birth in Riposto from 1831 through 1833. He is not there. I suspect the town recorded the births of the abandoned in a separate register, but online records for these are not available.

Perhaps I can find his birth act in the processetti of the marriage (attachments/documents.)

From the processetti...
Isidoro's birth act.
He was presented to the official by Concetta Grillo(?), the 75 year old receiver of the abandoned. He was given the name Isidoro Vaccarino by the official.

Where did this woman Concetta Grillo get the name Isidoro Vaccarino from? Is there any way to find out who gave birth to him? His first born male child was Pasquale. Can we look for a Pasquale Vaccarino who may have been his birth father?

Concerts Grillo did not name the child. The official in the town, usually the mayor or his representative, have the child his official name. Concerts was the "receiver of the proietti (abandoned)"children at the wheel.
I have added links to help you understand this.

Isidoro may have named his first child Pasquale because the name appealed to him, or in honor of someone who he admired, or it was a name in his wife's family, among other possibilities

I am sorry that I continue to press this issue. My 2nd great grandfathers name was Isidoro Vaccarino so this Concetta Grillo may have been the midwife who delivered the baby and knew who the baby’s parents were. Otherwise, How could they have Come up with the name Isidoro Vaccarino. Vaccarino was definitely a family name in the Ripostese community. You must agree with me on that. Certainly sounds Concetta knew the birth parents. I understand the abandonment process and that perhaps Isidoro’s birth parents were not married at the time of his birth. How can I continue to research this?
