San Vito di Cadore, Belluno

Post by mdossi »

Any ideas on where I can find information about 1) what political entity was San Vito di Cadore a part of prior to the formation of Italy for, say, the last 600 years, 2) where can I find information on the Dogana Vecchia (old customs house) at the north end of town, especially when was it built and why, and 3) when was the avalanche from Antelao that demolished the two nearby towns, Taulen and Marceana.

A summary of history of the Comune in Wikipedia:

https://it.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Vito_di_Cadore

From 1420 Vito belonged to the Repubblica di Venezia, that finished in 1797 with the occupation by France.
Then since 1815 there was the Regno Lombardo Veneto (part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire).
In 1866 after the 3rd War of Independence, joined to the Kingdom of Italy.

The landslide was in 1814 (see again Wikipedia above).
