Sorce in Mussomeli

Post by lindamauer »

Hello,
I am needing the source documents for Guiseppe Sorce born in Mussolmeli Caltenisetta Sicily on August 6, 1838 and died on May 31, 1897 to attach to my tree and to verify the name spelling.
His parents are Francesco Sorce and Rosaria La Mattina? for which i i do not have any documents OR info on them for their B, D, M or parents etc.
I have a DNA match and we are trying to confirm our common ancestors for which they are not locating documents either at this time.
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you in advance as this site as helped me push through brick walls before.
Best,

Here is Giuseppe's death record for you:

1897 Death No 121: Giuseppe Sorce
Died in Mussomeli on 31 May 1897, 58 yo, contadino (peasant/farmer), born and residing Mussomeli, son of the deceased Francesco Sorce, and of the deceased Rosaria La Mattina. He was the husband of Maria Lombardo

Edit to Add:

1838 Birth No 59: Giuseppe Sorce

Born Mussomeli on 6 August 1938.
Francesco was 35 yo, Rosaria was 30 yo.
The writing is quite faint.

You are welcome.

I've located Giuseppe's marriage to Maria Lombardo which gives you more info but I don't have time to translate it at the moment. Someone else might chime in. I also began looking for Giuseppe Parents' record going back from 1838 to 1830. Given their ages when Giuseppe was born they were probably born much earlier than that?

Anyways, here's Giuseppe and Maria's marriage:

1863 Promise and Marriage No 43: Giuseppe Sorce and Maria Lombardo
Married 7 October 1863, Mussomeli
Maria Lombardo’s parents are the deceased Francesco and the living Salvatrice Tuzzeo? 44 yo.

whoops. I knew the name Tuzzeo sounded familiar to me. I should've checked here first. Here's a related thread with the marriage translated already: https://www.italiangenealogy.com/forum/ ... eo#p334546

Hi there Linda

Definitely 1828. Sorry for the typo. We're having a bit of a heat wave so I'm not quite with it. I did spot the typo when I looked at my notes just now and was going to change it.

So happy I located the marriage. It's too bad the marriage attachments are not on line. They would've taken you back further.

Take care.

No worries. Thank you for dates , etc. Wouldn't their birth and death records give parent's information to go back?
Thanks again

They certainly would if they were on line, yes, but the records that I am referring to are the ones that are included amongst the processetti (marriage attachments). These include Birth Acts of bride and groom, the death records pertaining to the father, mother and paternal grandfather of the groom. These records are all pre 1820 which are not on line, nor are the death acts of the father and paternal grandfather of the bride. Anything further back you will need to search Church Records as Sicily didn't begin keeping Civil Records until 1820. Keep an eye on Family Search for the Church Records. Some have been filmed but are not digitised yet.

Edit to Add: I think that the only exception is that the mother of the groom ie Giovanna Calleri died in August 1827? (the writing is not so clear) but those death records which should be online are missing anyway?

Just wanting to correct the following:

I rechecked Family Search and Church Records have in fact been digitised and are on line: https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/catalog/730190
