The Impact of Children on Blood Relationships

Post by rp76226 »

Your sister gets married.
Neither she nor you are blood related to her husband. You both are merely marriage related to her husband.
The couple has a child.
The child is blood related to his/her mother and father, so therefore "logically" both you and your sister are now blood related to the father through that child. True?
If now blood related to the father through that child, then you and your sister are now blood related to all the father's ancestors and his other blood related relatives. True?
Therefore all your blood related relatives are now blood related to the father and his blood related relatives. True?

I consider "blood" relationships to be ONLY those that can be connected genetically. Therefore, you ARE blood-related to the child (through your sister), but not his father or his family. Just my two cents...

:D Thank you Mark!!! I love and value my Italian heritage and enjoy helping others discover theirs, as I am sure you do too. (I always enjoy reading your posts about dialects, as my first language was basically Southern dialect. I don't remember it as well as you do though, and mine is quite mixed.)

Take care.

No, having a child does not create new blood relationships between previously unrelated individuals; your sister's husband remains unrelated to you by blood, even after they have a child. The child shares blood with both parents, but that connection doesn't make you biologically related to the father's family.
